Tips for negotiating rates with creators who inflate their pricing?

Running into creators quoting 3–4x what I'd estimate their actual value at based on performance data. How do you negotiate without burning the relationship?

Anchor to data, not gut feel. When I present a counter-offer I always reference the estimated rate range from the Pricing Engine and explain it's based on average views per video for their content format — not subscriber count, which inflated creators love to quote from. Also frame it as a 'testing budget' for the first collaboration with a clear path to higher rates on repeat campaigns. That takes the sting out of accepting a lower first-deal number.

One underused tactic: offer exclusivity-in-category in exchange for a rate discount. For a creator who does scattered sponsorships across many niches, 3 months of category exclusivity (where you're their only skincare/tech/etc sponsor) is genuinely valuable to them and costs you nothing if you were going to be the only brand anyway.
